MVP / product build → Product evolution → AI feature expansion
Business context
DraftCheck began as a response to a clear workflow gap: professionals working in document-heavy environments needed faster, more reliable ways to review, correct, and finalize important documents without switching tools.
The first version focused on structured review for attorneys and lawyers, especially in Google Docs, where comparable automation was limited. As the product matured, that original review layer expanded into a broader workflow product for Legal, HR, Compliance, and Operations teams using both Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
That progression matters because it shows how AI entered the product in a practical way. DraftCheck did not begin as an AI-first concept. It evolved from document intelligence and rule-based review into AI-assisted Q&A, drafting support, and interactive refinement features embedded directly into real document workflows.
The challenge
DraftCheck had to solve more than one problem at once. It needed to fit into high-stakes document workflows where precision matters, where users need help without giving up control, and where even small drafting or review mistakes can create real downstream risk.
At the same time, the product had to evolve in a realistic way. The early value came from structured review and document intelligence. Later stages needed to introduce AI capabilities without breaking trust, usability, or workflow control.
Building something similar?
If you are adding practical AI to an existing product or turning a document-heavy workflow into a more intelligent software experience, Numatic can help identify the right next step.
How AI became part of the product
DraftCheck did not begin as a generic AI product. The early product value came from structured review and document intelligence.
From there, the product evolved in stages: first through rule-based review, then into AI-powered Q&A for document analysis, then into first-generation drafting support through ClauseCraft, and later into a more interactive agent-style workflow for drafting and refining documents.
That progression matters because it shows AI being added where it improves a real workflow: faster answers inside documents, more efficient drafting support, better document refinement, and a clearer path from review logic into interactive assistance.
What Numatic delivered
Numatic supported DraftCheck across three connected layers of work:
shaping the product direction, building the initial workflow experience, and helping the product evolve into a broader AI-assisted document platform.
Product direction: shaped the early workflow and MVP around real document-review needs.
Core product build: translated expert legal-review logic into product rules and algorithms.
User experience: designed and built an easy-to-use extension experience for Google Docs, then supported broader product expansion.
AI evolution: supported the move from structured review into AI-assisted Q&A, drafting support, and interactive document-refinement workflows.
Practical application: helped bring AI into a real document-heavy workflow rather than treating it as a separate novelty layer.
Key AI capabilities
AI Q&A for fast document understanding and source-grounded answers
ClauseCraft as the first generation of AI-assisted drafting support later evolution into a more interactive agent-style workflow for drafting and refining documents
SmartCompare support for highly complex comparison tasks, including move detection
Local-first AI and privacy-sensitive workflow positioning for document-heavy environments
Outcome
DraftCheck evolved from a structured document-review product into one of Numatic’s clearest practical-AI showcases:
a live workflow product that combines document intelligence, AI-assisted Q&A, drafting support, comparison, and interactive refinement inside the tools professionals already use.
Increased review accuracy and improved document creation and refinement speed by around 10x
Expanded from rule-based review into a fuller AI-assisted workflow model
Added highly challenging comparison capability with move detection
Demonstrates how practical AI can be embedded into a real professional workflow instead of being treated as generic transformation language
