Sports Media Advisors is a boutique advisory firm working at the intersection of sports, media, and technology. The firm has been operating since 2009, advising leagues, teams, media companies, and investors on growth strategy, media rights, and revenue opportunities.

The firm’s existing website still worked, but it was several years old and no longer reflected where the company was today — the depth of the team, the range of the work, or the personal brand of the founder, which is closely tied to the firm’s identity in the market.

The challenge

The brief was to modernize, not rebuild. The existing site was doing its job in a basic sense, and the firm’s brand and reputation were already strong. 

The opportunity was to refresh the look and feel, simplify how the services and the team were presented, and make Doug Perlman’s personal brand more visible — without losing what was already working.

  • Modernized the brand identity — fonts, colors, iconography — while keeping elements that still worked
  • Redesigned the site with a cleaner information hierarchy that makes the services and the team easier to understand
  • Curated and prepared the visual assets, including hero imagery and team photography
  • Built the new responsive site and migrated the firm from Wix to WordPress on WPEngine, with SEO-safe redirects from the old pages
  • Set up the content management system and trained the SMA team to maintain the site in-house

Refresh the brand without losing it

The work started with Doug and the team to identify what was still working and what needed to change. The brand refresh kept the recognisable parts of the SMA identity and modernised the rest.

Redesign and rebuild around the new direction

The site was redesigned with a clearer information hierarchy and rebuilt on a modern platform — moving from Wix to WordPress — so the team could update content easily and the site could grow with the firm.

Migrate without breaking continuity

Existing pages, redirects, email, and DNS were migrated as part of the engagement, so the firm could move to the new site without losing search ranking or breaking existing links.
